Comparison
Punctilio vs DocSend
DocSend is fine software. The pricing model is the problem.
DocSend does what it says. Link tracking works, the analytics are real, and plenty of teams have run a whole fundraise on it. If the software were the issue, this page would not exist.
The issue is the bill. DocSend prices by the seat, and the features you actually need arrive one tier at a time. E-signing beyond 4 documents a month means Standard at $45 per user per month. Watermarking, NDA gating, and folder-structured data rooms wait until Advanced at $150 a month, and that headline number covers only 3 seats. Every additional person costs $90 per user per month, so a 5-person team pays $330 a month on annual billing and a 10-person team pays $780. Prefer to pay monthly? Advanced becomes $250. “Expensive” is the single most common dislike in DocSend’s G2 reviews, and it is not hard to see why.
Punctilio makes one bet: pricing should not be the product. $29.99 a month covers your workspace, flat. Data rooms with watermarking, access controls, email verification, and activity tracking. Native e-signing. Client document collection with malware scanning on every upload. One subscription, one number on the invoice.
Side by side
| Feature | DocSend | Punctilio |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Per seat. Personal $10/user/mo, Standard $45/user/mo, Advanced $150/mo for 3 seats plus $90/user/mo for each extra seat, billed annually. | $29.99/mo flat per workspace. |

| Free trial | 14 days. No free plan after it ends. | 7 days. No card required. |
If you got here looking for the free plan
There is not one, and there has not been one for years. What disappeared recently was something else: on March 31, 2025, Dropbox shut down Send & Track, the built-in feature that gave every Dropbox user free document sending with open tracking. Affected users were offered a 3-month promotional DocSend trial, and once it lapsed, tracking meant paying. The entry point is DocSend Personal at $10 per user per month billed annually, and it carries its own limits: 4 signable-document links a month on one-time links only, and third-party reviews report a visit cap of around 100 visits a month, which founders describe running through within about a week of sharing a deck.
If that funnel brought you here, the comparison is short. Punctilio’s trial is 7 days and asks for no card. The price after is $29.99 a month for the workspace, and e-signing is not a paywall waiting to happen mid-fundraise.
When DocSend is still the right call
We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us. DocSend makes sense if:
You need very large data rooms.
Advanced Data Rooms at $180/mo billed annually supports up to 4,000 assets per room, with automatic file indexing, audit logs, and group permissions. If your deal needs that scale today, pay for it.
You live in Dropbox.
DocSend is a Dropbox product, and teams already committed to that ecosystem get the shortest path.
You need enterprise plumbing.
SSO and API access sit on DocSend’s Enterprise plan at custom pricing. Punctilio is built for teams that want a flat bill, not a procurement cycle.
You hold a startup discount and plan to switch later.
DocSend’s discounts can make year one cheap. Reviewers note they expire, so check the renewal price before you build your workflow around it.
If none of those describe you, you are probably about to pay per-seat prices for features Punctilio includes at $29.99 a month.
