Comparison
Punctilio vs Peony
Peony is good modern software. The bill just grows per admin.
Peony deserves the comparison. It launched in 2021, thousands of teams use it, and it shows up in the same founder circles Punctilio does. It is modern, fast, and honest about its pricing, which already puts it ahead of the legacy data room vendors.
The difference is the unit. Peony charges per admin: $30 per admin per month for Business, $52 for Data Room, billed annually, and the features that matter in a real deal sit on the higher tier. Dynamic watermarking, the NDA that produces a signed PDF, granular permissions, and custom domains are all Data Room features. A three-person team that wants those pays $156 a month on annual billing, and more if it pays monthly. Peony’s own pricing page frames that as a savings against DocSend, and it is. It is still five times Punctilio’s bill.
Punctilio charges the workspace, not the people in it: $29.99 a month with 3 seats included and $5 a month for each additional seat. Watermarking, NDA gates, e-signing, and client document collection with malware scanning are all in the one plan. The bet is that a small team should not need a pricing calculator to share documents safely.
Side by side
| Feature | Peony | Punctilio |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Per admin. Business $30/admin/mo and Data Room $52/admin/mo billed annually, with monthly billing higher. Three admins on Data Room run $156 a month. | $29.99/mo flat per workspace, with 3 seats included. |
| Watermarking and NDA | Business gets a simple acknowledge-only NDA. Dynamic watermarking and the signed-PDF NDA with audit trail wait for Data Room at $52/admin/mo. | Dynamic watermarking and signed NDA gates included. |
| E-signing | 3 e-signatures a month on Free, unlimited from Business up. Signing is document-level, not a full envelope workflow. | Full e-signing included: templates, reminders, bulk send, signer tracking, sealed audit artifacts. |
| Client document collection | Not a listed feature on Peony’s published plans. | Included, with checklists, review and approval, and malware scanning on every upload. |
| Data room limits | Up to 3 data rooms per admin on Business. More rooms means the $52/admin tier. | Data rooms included in the flat price. |
| Free plan and trial | Free plan for personal use, capped at 50 documents and 3 e-signatures a month. | 7-day trial. No card required. |
When Peony is still the right call
We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us. Peony makes sense if:
You want AI answers inside the data room.
Peony’s AI document Q&A is real and useful, and Punctilio does not have an equivalent today. If buyers asking an AI about your documents is core to your process, Peony earns the line item.
You are running actual M&A processes.
The Deal Team tier adds an advanced Q&A module, redaction, closing archives, and SOC 2 reporting, priced per admin with a 4-admin minimum. That is deal infrastructure, and it is good.
You need unlimited storage.
Peony’s Data Room tier removes storage and file-size caps. Punctilio includes 10 GB per workspace.
You want a free plan for personal sharing.
A CV or a one-off deck fits Peony’s free tier without paying anyone anything.
If none of those describe you, the per-admin math is the whole story: three people on Peony Data Room cost $156 a month against $29.99 flat on Punctilio.
